We didn’t go to Deas Island, now guess what we ended doing instead...my mom suggested that we drive over the new bridge seeing how it won’t be free for much longer. And now I can say that “I’ve been over the new bridge.” Larry said that he had already been across the new bridge but he was excited to show it to me, so now you know that yesterday wasn’t Larry’s first time over the Golden Ears Bridge.

And instead of taking 32nd Avenue out to 176th from South Surrey, Larry took me up 152nd Street to Highway 10, Highway 10 to 168th Street, and then 168th to 96th Avenue. Yesterday was the first time I was on that section of Highway 10 since before they four-laned it, I didn’t know until we went that way that they replaced the bridge where Highway 10 crosses the Shepperton River with a newer four-laned crossing instead of just building another two-laned bridge beside the other one. Then on the way back, Larry got on Highway 1 at Walnut Grove and took it to 160th Street, he then drove me by the driveway that leads into his townhouse complex. He lives at Chestnut Lane which is on the West side of 156th Street just South of 104th Avenue.

We went for our snack at Dairy Queen in Maple Ridge. We drove around for a little bit before we found that DQ though, and then after we left there and just before we got back to the bridge Larry pointed out a second DQ...the second one is the one that’s closer to the bridge while the one that we went to is further East. We didn’t know about the second one until after we had our snack at the first one and I knew before we went over there that there’s got to be a Dairy Queen in Maple Ridge...I just didn’t think that they would have enough people there for them to have two. I think that the DQ we did go to was a nice one except you have to ask the people behind the counter to buzz you into the washroom. Larry asked them to buzz me into the washroom the first time I went after I ordered and before we sat down, and then after we finished eating he asked me to go up to the counter this time and say to them “could you please buzz me into the Men’s washroom.” I got my medium chocolate shake and Larry got a small chocolate Sundae. He had the Sundae while I had my shake and then he went back up to the counter while I was in the washroom and this time he got some onion rings. I myself thought that was a good way for him to use his time seeing how I did spend a bit longer in the washroom this time than I did the first time I went.

And on our way over there, we drove right by the transfer station that my dad sometimes goes to. I knew that it’s near Port Kells but I didn’t know until yesterday that it’s right on the new road that leads to the bridge. Speaking about this, my dad told me yesterday that he read in the paper about they’re talking about building another transfer station in the South Surrey/Cloverdale area. It will be a lot easier to go there because it will be closer.

Now me going over the new bridge for the first time wasn’t the only big event for us yesterday...my cousin Jenny’s been having fights with Judy and Jenny thinks that Judy’s making her do more work than she should be while the kids that she fosters don’t do much at all. Jenny said that she cleaned up the entire house yesterday morning and because she felt too tired after doing so she then asked the kids that Judy fosters to walk their dogs for her but the kids wouldn’t listen to her. And Jenny’s worried that Judy will kick her out if the two keep having these fights and then Jenny won’t have anywhere to go so my mom asked her if she has a social worker, but Jenny doesn’t even know herself whether or not she has one. Jenny’s friend, Carrie, is concerned about her because she’s noticed that Jenny hasn’t been herself for the last couple of weeks and my mom also noticed herself the last couple times when she talked to Jenny on the phone that Jenny’s doesn’t sound as happy and seems upset a lot of the time. And Jenny told my mom last night on the phone that she goes to the doctor tomorrow to get some test results so my mom then told her to tell the doctor that she feels stressed.

Larry asked me what I thought about going to a different Dairy Queen and then he asked me to come up with an “indoor plan” when I E-mail him for incase it’s too rainy again to go to Deas Island on next Tuesday. He already came up with these few ideas such as things like bowling or going to the arcade. And for another time he suggested that we could drive to the skytrain in North Surrey and then take the skytrain into Vancouver. I told you in the E-mail I sent you on Wednesday May 27th that he already suggested taking the skytrain into downtown Vancouver, but you know that I won’t go for that idea either.

And I saw the blue hydrogen and test Natural Gas powered bus again yesterday when Larry and I were driving around Maple Ridge. It was the second time that I saw this bus (it’s a transit bus by the way), the first time I saw it was near the 22nd Street skytrain station on that day last August when I was in the car with my dad after we went downtown to meet Cam and then we looked around a few other fish stores.

See you tomorrow at 1PM.

-Neil
