John,
I guess you could tell that new medication that I’ve been on for a few days now is working
seeing how I slept through the night both Thursday and Friday night, and I spent most of Friday
afternoon asleep on the couch. I was awake since 8AM this morning but I fell asleep at midnight
and didn’t wake up again until 8, so I therefore still managed to have a good seven or eight
hour sleep last night. Being awake since 8 this morning shouldn’t affect me too much seeing how
I think I “got more sleep” than I needed within the last few days. And I’ll let you know that
I’d feel comfortable not talking about any heavy stuff tomorrow. I might send you a few thoughts
later this week as they come to me and I know you told me not to be in
a hurry to send my thoughts to you, but seeing how Dr. McKibbin had
previously said that it’s a good idea to write down my thoughts as soon as I think of them or
otherwise my mind will go blank the longer I keep waiting.
I got out for a walk with my mom yesterday afternoon for the second time since before
Christmas. First, I took her behind the elementary school (Bay Ridge Elementary) and
showed her the new stairs and paved trail into the park that’s behind the school. We then walked
through the park out to 18A Avenue and then we followed 18th Avenue to 144 Street, 144th Street
to 17A Avenue, 17A to 143B Street, 143B to 16A Avenue, 16A to 142nd Street, 142nd out to 16th
Avenue, and then we walked down 16th Avenue to the Macs convenience store where my mom bought
twenty gummy candies from the 5 cent bins for me to have for my afternoon snack once we got home
including two of those yellow banana gummies and at least two of the red strawberry marshmallow
candies. And that guy was working yesterday afternoon when I was in the Macs store with my mom,
but he didn’t give us any deals.
My dad picked up Safeway Chinese food yesterday for my supper, he also got me from Safeway
this small square white iced double-layer white cake with coloured sprinkles on top. The cake
was only big enough for two pieces, I had one half for dessert yesterday after my Chinese food
and I plan to have the other half of the cake for my dessert after supper tomorrow. And that was
perfect timing yesterday seeing how the lens popped out of my dad’s sunglasses as he was coming
out of Safeway, he drove down to LensCrafters (the one in South Point) on his way home
after picking up my Chinese food and they fixed his glasses for him.
For my evening snack last night, I had four of the After Eight mints and also these two
chocolates that someone at my dad’s work brought back from France sometime within the last few
weeks. One was a “milk chocolate cappuccino” and the other was a “dark chocolate with coco
beans."
Mac didn’t bring anyone else with them yesterday, it was just him and my dad. They didn’t
catch any fish until a half hour before
they got back to the dock when my dad caught a little trout. You can get some pictures and also
a short video that my dad took when they were in the boat:
http://www.stuntsillusion.com/download/tempfile2.zip
I also included in the above ZIP file another picture of Marshall. In this one he’s with his
older brother Ben and their mom, my cousin Shelley, and it was my auntie Karen who E-mailed this
picture to my dad before he then forwarded it to me.
I remember you asked me sometime within the last few weeks when you saw me if you can copy a
person’s face from an image and then paste it into the Windows Paint program, without also
copying anything else from the image if you select an area (by using the Select tool)
that’s just big enough to copy the face. You can use the “Free-Form Select” tool which can be
found in the top-left corner of the toolbox right next to the regular (rectangular)
Select tool. Just note that the area you select will still be surrounded by a rectangle once you
select that area using the “Free-Form Select,” but try dragging or copying and then pasting the
area that you just selected, once you select an area using the “Free-Form Select.” If you
wanted to copy the entire area that had a rectangle around it instead of just the potion of the
area that you selected using the “Free-Form Select” tool, then you need to use just the Select
tool.
Remember a few messages ago I showed you a screenshot of this error message that will pop up
when I first start Netscape either after restarting my computer or after computer has been left
idle for a certain amount of time. Now every time lately when I start Microsoft Outlook either
after I restart my computer or after my computer has been left idle for a certain amount of
time, this following error message pops up a few seconds after I close Outlook:
And keep in mind that if I keep restarting and exiting outlook a bunch more times after I get
the above message, it won’t happen again. The message only pops up once I exit Outlook after
running it for the first time either after restarting my computer or after computer has been
left idle for a certain amount of time.
And when I made that ZIP file (tempfile2.zip) which I gave you the full address to
above, I had to first copy all of the files that I wanted to put in that ZIP file and then take
them upstairs on my memory stick and ZIP them on our upstairs computer because whenever I try to
ZIP either one big file or a bunch of files that just add up to a big size in total using the
downstairs computer, I get this error message that says “The Compressed (Zipped)
Folder is invalid or corrupted.” This is when I try to create a New “Compressed (Zipped) Folder”
while in My Computer (or “Explorer”) on “Windows XP Home Edition,” but I only get this
message either if I try to copy a large amount of files or just one big file into the ZIP
folder. We are running “Windows 98 2nd Edition” on the upstairs computer on which I successfully
ZIPped the file using WinZip.
The person who wanted me to scan those images of Canadian dollar bills and coins for him sent
me a response after I sent him his images a few days before in which he asked me if I have any
current Canadian $50 or $100 bills, here’s the reply I then sent him to his response:
> hi again Rorie,
>
> you wrote:
> > thank you for the scans but do you have any C$50 or C$100 notes? could you scan me for me
too?
>
> I don’t have any Canadian $50 or $100 bills on me right now. If I come across one I’ll scan
the pics and
> send them to you, but otherwise I’m not gunna make a special trip to the bank just to
withdraw a $50
> or $100 bill to scan for you and then put back in my account.

We have a new picture to scan tomorrow that my mom found in the Peace Arch local newspaper,
the picture is of a brown cat named Chloe with one of the Surrey SPCA’s staff members,
Kimberly Hoare. I wonder if she has any relation to Michelle! And my mom already read me the
story in which Kimberly said that she asks people about their household, other pets (especially
dogs), and if they want an inside or outside cat. “Basically, what’s your lifestyle, what’s your
home like is how we determine a match for you,” said Hoare. “Each cat has a different
personality,” she said...Staff members even add notes to behavior files to keep track of each
cat. And they also had this chart with the story in the Peace Arch:
In 2007...
• the Surrey SPCA served more than 3,808 animals including 1,390 dogs and 1,713 cats.
• 67% of stray dogs were returned to their owner.
• only eight per cent of stray cats found their original home.
• average length of stay for dogs: 37 days.
• average length of stay for cats: 59 days.
• 583 black cats, which are the most difficult to adopt.
• 132 senior cats (age 8+)
My mom didn’t have as good a sleep last night as what I had seeing how she kept waking up
during the night worrying about Izzy who she thought got left outside last night when we all
went to bed. She came downstairs a few times during the night to check the deck door, but Izzy
wasn’t there either of those times. My dad decided to go for a little walk around the block this
morning after he got up and look for her, but once he got a little ways from home he then
remembered that he saw Izzy in the workshop last night just before he locked it up but he
thought that she had since ran out. As soon as he came home and opened the shop, he saw that
Izzy did get locked in there overnight. And Izzy did get back at my dad for locking her in the
shop seeing how he found her with a dead bird in her mouth later on this morning.v
A couple other cat stories:
• Friday July 18,2008: In the morning when my dad had his fishing rods in the
family room, Izzy was playing with them.
Friday July 18,2008 - evening: My mom was upstairs doing some ironing while I was having my
shower when she looked out the window and saw that Izzy had climbed up onto the roof of my dad’s
workshop from the trellis. My dad told us later that she didn’t climb onto the trellis when she
came back down, she walked across the roof and then she jumped down onto the fence.
That was a good thing that they asked me if I wanted to go for my EKG later on that same day
seeing how I like to get things over with. The reason why I decided on A&W at the last minute
instead of sticking to my plans and going to White Spot was because I wasn’t expecting that I
would have an EKG on that day and therefore assumed that we’d most likely be back across the
bridge before 11:30. It was close to 12 noon by the time I got out of the clinic so by the time
we’d get across the bridge, wait to be seated and White Spot, and then wait for our food, I just
thought that A&W would be a quick walk just down the street (Wilson Avenue) from the
clinic plus again I would’ve rather got the EKG done than make it in enough time to beat the
lunchtime crowd at White Spot. And here’s the portion of the message that I sent you on
Wednesday Feb.6,2008 in which I first told you why I no longer like the Guildford area A&W:
> ...There’s also an A&W on our left side of 152nd heading back into Surrey after
Coquitlam, but first I
> remember the last time when I ate at that A&W location I had to get buzzed into the
washroom...
Now we know that the A&W in Port Coquitlam is a smaller one even though it had a couple dark
tables in one corner. And I don’t think that location in PoCo had anymore tables than the amount
that express A&W has that I ate at with my mom and dad nine months ago in the Murrayville area
of Langley even though you didn’t see any “express” signs anywhere at the PoCo A&W. When I told
my mom about the picture we saw on the wall that the PoCo A&W use to be a Drive-in one before
they put in tables, she didn’t look surprised once I told her about the picture seeing how she
then said that she herself figured it looked like an older A&W when she and my dad drove by
it.
And here are a couple more excerpts from previous E-mails I’ve sent you in which you couldn’t
remember that I don’t like anything that’s cooked on the barbeque (prefer boiled, cooked
on the stove) or that I got a sunburn once before:
Sunday May 4,2008:
> ...I’ll also let you know BTW that I don’t like anything else that’s cooked on the barbeque
though I
> like both barbeque salmon and Safeway barbeque chicken, I prefer most of the things I eat to
be
> cooked on the stove.
Tuesday May 20,2008:
> I remember you asked me yesterday afternoon when you were with me if I ever got a sunburn. I
asked
> my mom after you left to confirm whether or not I never had a sunburn and the only sunburn
that she
> remembered me having in my life so far was when we were camping at Long Beach on Vancouver
> Island one summer when I was only seven years old, she remembers that she and my dad put lots
of
> lotion on me before we ventured out onto the beach while forgetting that I would be taking off
my
> shoes and socks once we got to the beach. The top of my feet got a bit burnt.
You thought that Rod Stewart did not have the original version of that song
(Young Turks)
that we heard at A&W, I looked up the song and learned that it was one of his songs. I
also discovered when I looked up the song that it was released on his 1981 album “Tonight I'm
Yours,” I therefore don’t know why they’d play that song in A&W if you say that they only play
music from the 1950s and 60s and if that song came out in year 1981. And I have that one
particular song (Young Turks) on one of my cassettes and I also have a lot of his CDs.
And earlier that same day when I was in the car with my parents on our way to the meeting, we
heard Amy Winehouse’s song “Rehab” on the radio. My mom said the song was awful. And my mom told
me that she’s been in the news lots lately, her boyfriend’s in jail and they both did a lot of
drugs.
Also on our way to the meeting, remember I told you that I saw a house for sale in Port
Coquitlam and on Shaughnessy just North of Pitt River Road. As soon as I pointed out the “for
sale” sign to my mom was when she asked me if I wanted to buy it so that I’d be nice and close
to my appointments, but seriously I wouldn’t want to live in that area either.
Seeing how our next meeting in PoCo is at 1PM on Thursday Sept.18,2008, we should hopefully
be out of there in time for my afternoon snack at 2PM or just after so I’m therefore thinking
that maybe all four of us could go in one vehicle and then I could maybe get another milkshake
for the ride home. We still have almost two months to think about things before we make final
decisions. And speaking about our meetings with the FVMH by the way, my dad thought that they
could use a light above the sink in their men’s washroom.
My mom and dad spent the rest of their time at the casino after our meeting last Thursday and
before it was time for them to come home. They had their lunch at the casino, my dad had a White
Spot burger. Now we know that White Spot burgers are served at the cafeteria in the Boulevard
Casino.
And I talked to my friend, Mac, on the phone on the day before yesterday (on Friday
afternoon), he said that he went to Canadian Tire on the day before (on Thursday the
17th) to buy a handicapped fishing license so that he could go out with my dad. When the girl at
the service desk went to fill it out, she made a mess and she didn’t think that they would get
anymore in until tomorrow (Monday). Mac did manage to get a license in the end, they
must’ve got some more in on Friday after all. Also, Mac told me that he was playing around with
YouTube while he was talking on the phone with me two afternoons ago. I figure this would be the
first time Mac went onto YouTube seeing how he said to me when I talked to him about it that he
couldn’t figure out how to find something that he wanted to watch.
See you tomorrow at 1PM.
-Neil
P.S. Links for today:
Rod Stewart song: Young Turks (1981)
PS2. I had originally thought that the light red area on today’s map combined with the orange
area was all one townhouse complex until you and I went for our walk last Monday (on the
14th of this month) when I learned that the red one is called “Tiffany Lane” and I forget the
name of the other one that we saw later that same day on 144th Street.
And here again is one of the maps I already sent you previously, on which the green dot
indicates the spot where my mom and I saw this cat on one of our walks that I told you I thought
was a dog at first until my mom told me that it was a cat that has long bushy hair:
Who you callin' Tweety?
