John,
Did you see my dad after you left my place yesterday? He said he saw you zip by him somewhere
at around 30th Avenue when he was driving home up 140th.
You remember that my mom didn’t get much sleep the night before last night, I’ll let you know
that I myself slept okay that same night even though I had three messy poops yesterday; one at
around 1PM just as you got here, that was why I was a bit later than usual coming downstairs,
and I had another messy poop when I was in the bathroom after I had my afternoon snack when you
were here, and I had the third one after I had supper and before I went in for my shower. I also
slept okay last night even though I was up for the first part of the night having messy toots,
and I also had a big poop last night after I brushed my teeth and before I went to bed.
And my dad phoned my auntie Darlene, my mom’s sister, last night and she had more details for
us about what happened. Darlene’s ten year old granddaughter, Mackenzie who was killed, lived up
in 150 Mile House with her (Mackenzie’s) mother, Kelly. Mackenzie and three others were
on their way to Williams Lake where they had to pick up something when an oncoming vehicle
slammed into the car that they were riding in. You can read the full story
right here
in the Williams Lake Tribune local newspaper. If you don’t get around to clicking on the link
and then reading the story, please let me
know so that I can print out the story for you to read when you’re at
my place on Thursday. And we don’t know why it says in the story that Kristine is Mackenzie’s
stepmother. I guess that Kelly’s friend, Kristine, who was driving the car they were in isn’t
the one who’s at fault seeing how the man driving the other vehicle drove over the centre line,
they think that maybe he fell asleep at the wheel. Kristine is now in hospital with two broken
legs. The last we heard before my mom read me the story online was that Mackenzie’s little
brother, Austin, was in critical condition but they think he’ll be okay. And Darlene told us
over the phone last night that they are scheduled to do an autopsy on Mackenzie’s body sometime
within the next few days to determine the cause of death.
Darlene is also my cousin, David’s, mother and David’s younger brother, my cousin Walter, is
Mackenzie’s father. Walter was at Darlene’s place last night when she was on the phone with my
parents, both she and Walter were really broke up. Mackenzie was the last light in Darlene’s
life seeing how she lost David two years ago, she lost her mom (my grandma) a year later,
and then this year she lost her only grandchild. Darlene and her common-law husband, Graham,
really loved Mackenzie. And my mom also told Darlene that she and my dad wish there was more
that they could do but it’s hard for them because they have to look after me.
My dad might take Thursday afternoon off work to drive my mom out to the valley and see
Darlene. And my grandma said that she has some pictures for us that she took at the engagement
party last weekend, I will show them to you sometime when you’re at my place after we get
them.
I called both of my friends later on last night and told them about what happened. When I
told my friend, Mac, last night that it was in 150 Mile where the accident took place he then
said to me about how that’s a deadly stretch of highway between Williams Lake and 150 Mile,
his dad (Mac’s dad) was trucking in that area a couple years ago when he got into an
accident and had to spend a night in hospital.
My mom said that if there’s going to be a funeral she and my dad won’t be attending because
it will probably be all the way up in 100 Mile House. And when I told Mac over the phone last
night that we will not be attending if there’s a funeral, he asked me “why not” and then he told
me about how he knows that it’s a nice drive up to 100 Mile and back. I don’t know if Mac
thought that I’d be going up there with my mom and dad when he said that he knows it’s a nice
drive, I don’t know if he thought that I’d be going with them if they could make it to the
funeral. And my dad said that it would probably be too much to drive up to 100 Mile and back all
in one day, we’d probably have to stay at least one night up there.
I stayed up late with my mom two nights ago on Sunday evening after we got the call from
Darlene in which the three of us first learned about the bad news. I caught the first bit of the
eleven o’clock news that night and that was when I learned about George Carlin’s passing. It was
my mom who told me when we saw the story that night that he was suppose to come out here and
perform at the River Rock casino.
A few other news points from the past week:
• Did you hear about the elderly Chinese lady who was scammed while waiting at a
bus stop in Vancouver? An Asian lady approached her and told the elderly Chinese lady about a
bracelet she has that brings her good luck, and then two other Asian ladies came along and said
that they both have the same bracelet. The Chinese lady paid them $20 thousand for the bracelet
even though it was worth only $40.
• One day last week, a man kept running in and out of traffic on Crescent Road at somewhere
around 136th Street. Someone called the police and then a female police officer was the first
person on the seen, she pepper sprayed the guy and then two bystanders came along and helped her
restrain the guy until another police officer came and took him away. The guy later died in
hospital. His wife and child were away on vacation at the time, and most of the people who knew
him said that he was a nice guy.
• They found that guy from White Rock who went missing just two weeks ago. He said that he
was all stressed and that he took off for Mexico. He’s back home now. My mom told me that on the
news a few days before they found him they were saying that he might’ve left the country, so now
we know that they were right. They also said at that time that they knew his bank account had
been accessed.
• You told me that sixth foot that washed up was a hoax, someone put a pig’s foot in a sock
and put the sock in a shoe. And was it you who told me that it was on the shore of Campbell
River where this pig’s foot washed up and not the shore of Jedidiah Island?
For my evening snack last night, I had the other half of those peanut butter WILLOCRISPs that
I told you I had the first half of for my evening snack two weeks ago today (on Tuesday
the 10th). And with my peanut butter WILLOCRISPs last night, I finally had that milk chocolate
wafer that I told you Sudhakar at my dad’s work brought back from Japan. It had white milk
chocolate on the inside and a thin cookie wafer on the outside. When my mom was at Safeway
two days ago (on Sunday) speaking about the WILLOCRISPs, she saw that they had boxes of
Neilson GOLDEN BUDS on sale so she got for me; a box of regular milk chocolate ones, a box of
mint ones, and another box of the peanut butter WILLOCRISPs. Also when she was at Safeway that
day, none of the seafood salads had any shrimp so she also got a package of shrimp when she was
there and topped off the salad with some of those.
If I don’t hear from you before Thursday, I’ll see you on that day at 1PM.
-Neil

PS2. I remember one time within the last few weeks when we were talking about my dad’s
Hillman, you said something about the Flintstone cars. Here are a few pictures of Fred
Flintstone’s car:
The above picture was taken at the 2008
New York International Auto Show.
