Cleveland, OH 18 October 1993 Here are two tracks which I designed over the course of a couple of weeks. I'd like to state that although they share some elements in common with the track JAYDES3, I finished these tracks before I saw the JAYDE tracks. In fact, I downloaded those files today, whereas EMEYER1 was finished two weeks ago and DIABOLIC was completed last Thursday. When I saw JAYDES3, I thought, "Hey, somebody's stealing my ideas and I haven't even made them public yet! No fair!" Such is the way of things. The tracks: - EMEYER1 is nothing very fancy, but is instead geared toward all-out racing. There is some driving skill required, but no stunt driving to speak of. Cornering figures pretty importantly in a few spots, and there's a spot or two designed to penalize the damn-the-torpedoes-full- speed-ahead types, but that's about it. I enjoy it; it's a chance to cut loose without fretting about a corkscrew or slalom lurking around the corner. My first design. - DIABOLIC, on the other hand, has a few stunts here and there, not to mention some truly sadistic track placement. Every time I run it I wonder what kind of bad mood I had to have been in when I hatched some of these ideas. Please note that there is no stunt or jump on this track which is impossible to complete. Some of them are exceedingly difficult to pull off, requiring precise placement and speed to survive, but rest assured that they can be done. I have completed every piece of the track without any sort of "cheating" (driving around stunts or skipping a section of the track). Honest. There are no high scores associated with these tracks. I erased my times on EMEYER1 by fooling around with some scenery changes, deciding I didn't like them, and then saving the track without thinking about it first. My record is a time of 6:51 flat in a Ferrari GTO. I have yet to actually finish DIABOLIC without having to back up and "drive over" a wreck or three. I have been the whole way through on a continuation, and it IS possible to bring a Ferrari GTO across the finish line in under ten minutes. This was particularly important to me, as my copy of Stunts! (v1.1) locks up at the 10-min. mark instead of asking me if I want to continue racing. Otherwise, the track would be even longer and more involved--you may have noticed an entirely unused corner of the track area. I had such plans...but alas. One final note: the astute reader may ask, "Why does this guy always use the Ferrari GTO?" It's the fastest of the slower cars, has good handling on my keyboard, and most important of all, it has a spedometer. Let me know what you think! -EMeyer (eam3@po.cwru.edu)
