John,

My friend, Kris, got hit by a car yesterday. He was on his way to work at 6AM. He was crossing a driveway near where he works when a car came zooming out of the driveway and the lady who was driving it was talking on her cell phone. He’s lucky because when the car hit him he fell away to the side, it ended up the car drove over his leg. His bone was sticking out of his lower leg. Kris said to the lady “take me to work,” so she took him to work. It should’ve been obvious to the lady that he was badly hurt, she should’ve just called an ambulance. When they got to Kris’s work, the guys there saw that he was hurt and said that they should get him to the hospital. One of the guys took the lady’s license and vehicle information and then they called the police.

We didn’t know about what happened until after my cousin, Jenny, phoned us last night and asked us for Kris’s cell phone number because she wanted to get in touch with him. Remember that she lives in Langley not far from where Kris’s grandparents live and Kris met her one time a few years ago. Jenny phoned us again a few minutes later to let us know that Kris’s grandma answered when she called his cell phone and told Jenny about what happened. My dad then phoned Kris’s grandma, Helen Dabay, and she told him that she didn’t know about what happened herself until after 4PM yesterday when she had got home from the hospital after taking her husband, Don, there. He had to have his lungs drained because he still isn’t very healthy after he had pneumonia last summer. Kris’s grandma also said to my dad on the phone yesterday evening that the doctors told Kris not to go back to work for four months and that Kris’s older brother, Timothy, is going to look into the ICBC stuff. This is going to be a lot for Kris’s grandma if she also has to look after him while his grandpa already isn’t doing well.

My dad took my grandparents out for breakfast this morning to the White Spot in Abbotsford and then he stopped in at Langley Memorial Hospital on his way home and saw Kris, but before going to the hospital my dad stopped at the store to get a box of sugar cookies and some Scratch-and-wins to give to Kris. Kris still looked really groggy when my dad saw him and he said that he should be out of the hospital on Monday. My mom and dad might also go see Kris on Sunday when you’re with me.

Also, I got out this afternoon with my mom for another walk and this time we saw a cat...my mom did. I attached a map of the walk, we went clockwise around the red area. Now when we were walking eastbound on 18th Avenue, we saw a man and lady out working in one of the front yards that’s in the green highlighted area. First, I saw that they had a dog with them and then my mom told me that she saw a gray cat run across the same front yard.

And on today’s walk when we got to the corner of 146th Street and 17A Avenue, we saw a small dog going pee on one of the front lawns in that area. It followed us for a little ways and then my mom stopped to pet it and have a look at his collar, it didn’t have a license or any nametags. And then this lady came over to us and told us that she’s noticed the dog running around the neighbourhood for the last few days. Remember that on one of the walks that you and I took not too long ago we saw a poster for a missing dog who responds to the name “Chewy” and it said on the poster that he’s been missing since March 31st. The lady who talked to us said that she saw the same poster and she wondered if this was the dog. She tried calling the cell phone number that was on the poster but no one picked up and she just got their voicemail. And the dog didn’t come to us when my mom tried calling out “Chewy.”
