The most valuable benefit of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) has always been it's plug-and-play aspect. By eliminating the hassle of opening the computer case to install cards needed for certain devices, USB provided users with an easy-to-use, expandable and speedy solution. From devices ranging from joysticks and scanners, to digital cameras and printers, vendors now had a way for consumers to add new capabilities instantly without having to open the PC, install a card, flip switches and configure their IRQ settings.

Recently a new USB specification (version 2.0) has been introduced. So what's the difference between USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 and more importantly, how can you benefit? For starters Hi-Speed USB 2.0 will increase device data rates to a maximum 480 Megabytes per second - that's 40 times faster than USB 1.0 devices! It's even faster than IEEE 1394 (Firewire) which peaks at a data rate of 400MB/second. What this means is that with the increased data bus speed, consumers can now take advantage of new high performance peripherals. Best of all, even with multiple high-speed peripherals connected via USB 2.0, you won't have to worry about hitting any bandwidth bottlenecks!

Pinnacle recognizes the power Hi-speed USB 2.0 will provide to our customers and we're already implementing it into many of our harware products. The newest two products to take advantage of the 2.0 specification are PCTV USB2 and MovieBox Deluxe. We'll notify you in the next couple weeks as these products become available so keep an eye on your email inbox.

Note: MovieBox Deluxe with Studio 9 is already available.
A hardware only version is coming soon for all existing Studio users.

PCTV USB2 is the easiest way to turn your PC into a personal video recorder (PVR). This external device plugs into your PC's Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port and offers a multitude of incredible features and functionality including:

  • Real-time de-interlacing for best-in-class video quality
  • View television programs in their intended 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio
  • Can connect it to either your cable or antenna
  • Immediately begin controlling live TV - pause, rewind, fast-forward and record
  • Burn your recordings to either CD or DVD!
  • Remote Control

MovieBox Deluxe is the best Hi-Speed USB 2.0 plug-and-play solution to instantly begin capturing video and outputting your movies back onto tape. A hardware only version for existing Studio users is coming soon and it's key features will include:

  • Connect to both digital and analog devices such as DV, D8, VHS and Hi-8
  • Capture video in MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or AVI format
  • Sleek and rugged industrial design by F.A. Porsche
  • S-Video and composite input and output
